Living Ready for Christ’s Return: A Daily Devotional

“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.” – Matthew 25:13 (NIV)

The Blessed Hope

As followers of Christ, we carry a promise that is both sobering and comforting: Jesus is coming back. Scripture calls this our “blessed hope” (Titus 2:13). Yet, in Matthew 24:36, Jesus reminds us that no one knows the day or the hour—not the angels, not even the Son, but only the Father. This mystery invites us not to speculate, but to live ready.

The return of Christ isn’t meant to stir fear, but to anchor us in hope. It’s a reminder that one day sorrow will cease, justice will prevail, and God will make all things new.

What Does It Mean to Live Ready?

Living ready is less about staring at the calendar and more about shaping the heart. Jesus paints the picture in His parables: servants who keep the lamps burning, hearts awake, and hands faithful in service.

  • Stay spiritually awake (1 Thessalonians 5:6) – Prayer, scripture, and worship keep us grounded.

  • Love deeply and generously (John 13:34–35) – Our love is a living testimony to others.

  • Walk in obedience (James 1:22) – Readiness is shown in action, not just intention.

Signs That Point Us Back to Him

In Matthew 24, Jesus describes wars, famines, earthquakes, and increasing wickedness as signs. These aren’t given so we can predict exact timing, but so we will remain watchful and faithful. Every headline is an invitation not to fear, but to draw nearer to God.

Encouragement for Today

The Apostle Paul reminds us: “Encourage one another with these words” (1 Thessalonians 4:18). Talking about Christ’s return should not divide or scare us; it should comfort and inspire us. For believers, it is the moment when faith becomes sight and hope is fulfilled.

A Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for the promise of Your return. Help me to live today with readiness, to love deeply, serve faithfully, and keep my eyes fixed on You. Let my heart not be troubled by what I cannot know, but filled with joy in what I do know: You are coming again. Amen.
